What is a pedigree dog?

All puppies from us are pedigreed (the owner receives a copy of the pedigree) and of course we also provide a contract and health guarantee. All this because we trust the outstanding quality of our dogs.
It is natural  for a professional breeder that their puppies have pedigree.
  • A pedigree dog is one that has parents which are both of the same breed. These parents must be registered with the FCI - the largest canine organisation of the World
  • An FCI Pedigree is a printed document that displays the lineage of an FCI dog and important information about the ancestors in a dog's family tree. It is basically the official ID card of your dog - if she has a Pedigree you can be sure her breed, age, health status and her breeder's data are trustful and correct.

What is a breed standard?

For every breed of pedigree dog, there is a breed standard. This is a picture in words that describes the breed in detail, including what a healthy dog of that breed should look like, how it should move and what their character, needs and behaviour are likely to be.

Almost all breeds of dogs were developed over time to help humans in their work and daily life. Although most dogs are now companions and do not need to work, you should learn about what job your intended breed was developed to do. This will help you understand the innate behaviour for that breed and whether you are able to give your dog a happy, healthy life that is appropriate for that breed.

Benefits of owning a dog registered by the FCI

  • Your dog will display the characteristics of the breed, in both looks and temperament
  • The pedigree certificate of your dog is a unique record detailing your dog's family tree
  • You can see the results from health tests for your dog's parents
  • You can be sure her breed, age, health status and her breeder's data are trustful and correct.

The question of whether a pedigree is necessary or not is a topic of debate. And yet, this is exactly where we shouldn't skimp!

We have already learned that we should not buy any high-value product (phone, laptop, washing machine, etc.) without papers, that is, without a guarantee, from a stranger, because we can easily get caught. Anyone who doesn't give papers doesn't take responsibility either. Based on this line of thought, we shouldn't buy a dog this way either - only from a reliable, informative place, with the appropriate papers (pedigree, contract, vaccination book)!
